Perfume Workshops in Istanbul: 7 Things to Know Before You Start

Perfume making can look complicated at first, but the underlying logic is simple: you are building a three-layered scent pyramid.

The scent pyramid

Top notes are the volatile scents you notice in the first 15 minutes — citrus, mint, lavender. Heart notes define the character of the perfume and last 2-4 hours — rose, jasmine, cinnamon. Base notes stay on your skin for more than six hours — amber, sandalwood, vanilla, musk.

How should you prepare?

Don't wear perfume on the day of the workshop and avoid heavily scented creams. A clean nose lets you tell the essences apart properly. Don't come on an empty stomach either — your sense of smell is sensitive to blood sugar.

Which notes go together?

Citrus with woods, florals with amber, and spices with vanilla are classic pairings. But the beauty of perfume is how personal it is — don't hesitate to try your own combination in the workshop.

Don't just read about it — do it
