Avanos is a town that has been making pottery from the red clay of the Kızılırmak river for 3,000 years. In this workshop you learn to throw on a traditional kick wheel — powered by your own foot, not a motor.
A master potter first demonstrates centring, opening and raising the clay. You then take your place at the wheel and shape your own vase or bowl.
After drying and firing, your work is shipped free of charge to any address in Türkiye. The workshop ends on a terrace overlooking the fairy chimneys, with a glass of Cappadocian wine.
